Retro meets innovation – Our Raspberry Pi Arcade project with the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences

Together with the Department of Information Technologies & Digitalisation (ITD) at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, we have implemented a really cool project: a retro game console based on Raspberry Pi .

The goal? To make technology a playful experience , combining modern IT with a nostalgic flair—and, at the same time, creating a project that perfectly combines fun, teamwork, and digital manufacturing .

🔧 What's inside?

The Retro Pi is more than just a homage to classic games. It's based on a Raspberry Pi and was manufactured in a transparent Plexiglas case – right here in our workshop.

Equipped with classic arcade buttons, joysticks, and sound modules , it's truly one-of-a-kind. The plexiglass panels were laser-cut , the housing components were constructed in-house, and carefully glued together with special adhesive —truly hands-on, from the initial design to the finished console.

🎓 Cooperation with the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences

Students from the Information Technologies & Digitalisation program were actively involved in the project – from the technical implementation to the software setup and design.

For us at Gemini Salzburg, it was particularly nice to see how practical experience, creative ideas and technical enthusiasm went hand in hand.

🚀 A project with a future

The Retro Pi is not only an eye-catcher, but also a strong example of how digital manufacturing , IT know-how and design thinking can work together in everyday education.

And who knows – maybe the next generation of DIY consoles will be waiting for you at the next workshop?
