WTZ-West

The Knowledge Transfer Center West (WTZ West) will enter its third project phase in fall 2022! It is the largest competence center for academic knowledge and technology transfer in Western Austria. Under the umbrella of WTZ West, six universities and four universities of applied sciences from Upper Austria, Salzburg, and Tyrol are now working together to create new knowledge horizons, pool potential, and place greater emphasis on research. WTZ West is funded by the AWS (Austrian Science and Technology Service) with funds from the National Foundation for Research, Technology, and Development (Austrian Fund).

EDIH "Crowed in Motion"

We are a consortium of non-profit research and technology organizations, innovation accelerators, crowd platform providers, and digital fabrication labs (Fablabs) from the Austrian digital innovation landscape. We pool our expertise to support and drive the digital transformation of organizations with a focus on the tourism, sports, and leisure industries, as well as the public sector.

Through a coordinated, complementary consortium – from the idea through analysis and prototyping to financing – we achieve acceleration and strengthening of innovation and implementation.

DIAGNOSIS

www.bmbwf.gv.at

The DIAG_NOSE research project at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg is identifying new biological markers from non-invasive samples to improve allergy diagnostics. The detection of IgE alone does not indicate whether someone will develop clinical symptoms. The project closes this gap by additionally testing antibodies (IgE, IgA, IgG) in human serum, nasal secretions, and saliva. Using an allergen array that simultaneously tests 300 allergens and mass spectrometry, markers are identified that distinguish between allergy and sensitization without symptoms.

As Young Citizen Scientists, the students are involved in the project from the very beginning – from sample collection to laboratory analyses, workshops, and evaluation of scientific results, to professional publications and conference presentations. In doing so, they learn how to convey scientific information at a high level, in a fact-based, and understandable manner. The Young Citizen Scientists thus have a multiplier effect and serve as media ambassadors.
